Hi! My name is Robina.
I am the owner and sole swim instructor of Saco River Swimming. Originally from the NH Seacoast, I moved with my family to Conway, NH in July 2023. I'm excited to bring swim lessons, coaching, and water safety instruction back to the Mt. Washington Valley.
A little about me: I have been a swimmer my entire life. I absolutely love swimming and love to help my students find joy in the water as well. I grew up accompanying my mom while she taught swim lessons in backyard pools. When she began coaching, I began to swim competitively. I eventually joined the Portsmouth Swim Team and swam with them throughout my youth. I continued to swim in college at the University of Puget Sound where I specialized in mid-distance backstroke. After moving back to NH, I joined the Great Bay Masters swim team and regularly swam with them until our move north. I am continually disappointed with the lack of lap pools in our area, but I'm learning to like open water swimming. I live with my husband, two kids, and dog in Conway. In my free time, I like to swim (yes, still), crochet, read (ask me what I'm reading!) and bake.
Water Safety is extremely important to me. I started lifeguarding for the City of Portsmouth at 15 and began teaching American Red Cross swim lessons the following year. I have been involved with water safety instruction and coaching ever since. In 2011, I started coaching with the Portsmouth Swim Team as a certified coach with USA Swimming. My coaching experience led me to an assistant coaching position with the Portsmouth High School swim team and a seasonal head coaching position with the Surf Club in Rye, NH. I have learn-to-swim educational experience (currently a certified American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor ™ ) and competitive swim coaching experience with all ages from infants to adults. I also have experience with Adaptive Aquatics classes and hope to be able to offer more specific classes for our friends with disabilities and special needs in the future.
My goal is to eventually be able to meet the needs of the region with year-round instruction from youth swim lessons to triathlon and open water swim training.
Please feel free to reach out with any interest or questions!
The American Red Cross started it's first water safety program in 1914 and has since become a leader in water safety education. Current programming teaches people of all ages and abilities how to be safe in, on, and around the water. The program covers knowledge and skills needed for aquatic skill development in a logical progression from ages 6 months to adults. As participants develop these skills, they become safer, stronger, and better swimmers.
Drowning is a leading cause of death for children. Discover more about the Red Cross program and resources on their website linked below. Download the American Red Cross Swim app to track progress and learn more about water safety.
Robina is a certified Water Safety Instructor ™ with the American Red Cross.
